Paris & Beyond: A Curated Journey History, Art, Wine & Judaism
On behalf of History for the Curious, we are excited to share with you details of our upcoming trip to Paris & Beyond 19th - 22nd October.
The four day tour will be based around Paris, which will be our main hub, however the itinerary will lead us outside the city too.
Monday will take us to the magnificent Rue de la Victorie synagogue. It is the second largest in Europe and the seat of the Chief Rabbi of Paris, with original work from Gustav Eiffel. We also visit the grave of Baron Rothschild in the cemetery where Oscar Wilde & Frederic Chopin are buried.
Excursions on Tuesday will travel east to Troyes: Rashi’s birthplace (1040-1105), where we will visit the ancient Jewish cemetery and the area where Rashi lived. We will then proceed to Ramerupt, the village of Rabbeinu Tam & Rashbam as well as the surrounding Champagne region. We will have the opportunity to take a guided tour of a kosher Champagne winery and enjoy a tasting in the grounds of the vineyard.
Wednesday will focus on the artistic and historic areas west of Paris, with visits to Giverny and Monet’s art, Field Marshal Rommel’s hideout as well as Maison Zola with the attached and newly opened Dreyfus Museum.
Thursday will be the area known as ‘The Pletzel’ which actually has a 600 year Jewish history, as well the Hotel de Ville and the location of the infamous ‘Vikuach’ in 1240 and Napoleon’s Sanhedrin in 1806. Thursday afternoon will be the occasion to sample the city’s most famous sights and enjoy its atmosphere in your own time.
The food will deliver a distinct French flavour and the geography will revolve mainly around the 17th district in the west of Paris.
As had been the case for all our previous 13 European tours, we will be accompanied by our two experienced International Speakers & Explorers: Historian Rabbi Aubrey Hersh & Lecturer Rabbi Dr Akiva Tatz who will enlighten, inform and entertain.
There are daily direct flights from both New York & Tel Aviv. We are offering an early bird rate of $2060 p.p. available until 15th July. The price after that date is $2180 p.p. in a twin room. The single supplement is $345.
